Permanentmagnet Synchronous Motors
Permanentmagnet synchronous motors are an alternative particularly to asynchronous machines concerning special applications. They stand out due to a number of advantages. Higher efficiency and a more compact design are a clear asset over restrictions in potential operating ranges. Especially the sensitivity of PM magnets regarding temperature, mechanical shock and flawed current supply of stator winding need to be highlighted.
ELIN Motoren globally deliver PM synchronous machines according to customer specifications in various designs and performance levels, amongst others, to the following industry fields:
- Wind Energy
- Plastics Industry
- Marine Industry
As a globally operating specialist for electric machines, ELIN Motoren is your perfect partner for synchronous motors in any design and size.
Surface Magnets
Surface magnets can be attached to the rotor via bonding techniques. Additional bindings generate further stabilization.
Buried Magnets
Implementing this design, the rotor carries the magnets below the rotor surface according to their recess. Due to the newly accumulated space, the magnets can be adjusted advantageously. As a result, the field weakening area can be used more efficiently.
Distributed Winding
This winding system is suitable for all types of induction machines. Most-widely implemeted are distributed windings as two-layer windings for polyphase voltage systems.
Counting Coil Design
The advantage of this design lies in the winding head’s compactness. Due to the shorter winding head and the higher line density of a PM synchronous machine, the required space for the drive can be further reduced.
Operating Principle
The operating principle of any electric machine is defined by the reciprocal repelling of the magnetic fields of stator and rotor. In case of the PM synchronous machine, the permanent magnets in the rotor create a field. The power distribution in the stator winding generates itself again a corresponding magnetic rotating field repelling the rotor.
Technical Structure
The most vital components of PM synchronous motors are:
- Active parts (stator / rotor)
- Casing
- Shaft
- Bracket
- Support
- Fan
- Terminal box, auxiliary terminal box
- Sensor system (temperature, vibrations, etc.)
- Stand-by heating (optional)
- Additional equipment according to customer requirements
Cooling Systems
Only the machine’s cooling system ensures the operating point in the required heating phase.
In the following you can find an example of the applied cooling systems:
- IC411 Surface cooling
(heat derivation via fins and ribs on casing) – airflow is provided by a fan on second shaft end - IC81W Air-Water Heat Exchanger
- IC511 Recooling via air-air heat exchanger (pipe machine)
- IC611 Recooling via air-air heat exchanger (external fitting)
- IC7A0W7 Water-Jacket Cooling
- IC01 Open Construction: cooling with ambient air
- Hybrid cooling techniques as customized solutions can be realized as well
