ELIN Motoren manufactures synchronous generators for various hydro turbines (Francis, Kaplan, Pelton) with complementary force and high runaway speed in vertical and horizontal arrangement. Synchronous generators with static excitation and FC operation are as much part of the generator portfolio as asynchronous generators for small hydropower and asynchronous motors used for frequency converter operations for pumped storage applications.

Generators and motors for small-hydro applications

For the classic Small-Hydro sector, we manufacture high-voltage synchronous generators and asynchronous generators, permanent magnet generators, as well as asynchronous motors for pump applications. Depending on the speed range (generally 4 to 50 poles), power outputs from 100 kVA to 30,000 kVA are available in both horizontal and vertical configurations. Synchronous generators are typically equipped with a brushless excitation system as standard, with static excitation also available upon request. ELIN Motors can accommodate project-specific customizations and special requirements, including integrating flywheels in both vertical and horizontal installations, as well as handling high axial loads in vertical applications.

For synchronous generators, either drum rotors or, more commonly, salient-pole rotors with bolted or dovetail mounting are used, depending on the power and speed range.

Asynchronous generators for hydroelectric applications are available in our portfolio with 8 to 30 poles, ranging from 100 to 1,500 kW.

Our product range covers voltages from 400V to 15,000V and grid frequencies of 50Hz and 60Hz. For the Small-Hydro sector with low head heights and power outputs up to approximately 1500 kW per unit, permanent magnet generators for the Voith-StreamDiver® can be provided.
